Episode 20 - Christology: Why It Matters In the Midst of All the Abuse

Updated: Jun 14, 2022

In this episode we're discussing the Southern Baptist Convention's list of abuses that was released in the last couple of weeks and we take a look at Christology. What is it and and why is it so important for those of us who want to continue to know and follow Jesus in the midst of all the proverbial crap hitting the fan? The church as we know it is crumbling fast, so... what does that mean for you and I? We also discuss Stranger Things 4, Jesus the compassionate one, and much more.

ALL THE RANDOM THINGS WE MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:

Stranger Things 4 - Ashley was a bit horrified by it. Shannon really liked it. You can watch the trailer here.

The video of the woman confronting her pastor 27 years after he raped her when she was 16 years old. You have to sit through a few minutes of him confessing to adultery at the beginning of the video before she gets on stage. It's hard to watch. She is incredibly brave. You can watch it here.

The Southern Baptist Convention's list of abuses. This is a document that holds so many untold, unfathomable stories of pain and betrayal. We are glad it is out in the light now, but it is heartbreaking.

C. Baxter Kruger's website, Perichoresis. There are a lot of good articles and resources here if you want to dig in deep.

Here is John Crowder's Jesus Trip video on Christology (IT IS SO HELPFUL AND GOOD!):

Leaving Hillsong. You can listen to this podcast here. "There are probably ten times as many people who have left Hillsong as are in it now. There are millions more people who have left other evangelical, or Pentecostal, or whatever name that these organisations go by. There are millions of stories of getting out."

Harkening Deer. Seriously, be still and know. Let Sean from Harkening Deer lead you into some beautiful meditations on the love, life and presence of God. The Names of God in Psalm 23 episode made me good cry. Listen to it here (the actual meditation starts at the 6 minute mark). Enjoy!

The Glorious Things podcast is hosted and made by Shannon Ruddy & Ashley Simmons.
